Kanye West Gets 'Lost' During Thanksgiving Day Parade

Kanye West performs his new song “Lost In The World” during the 2010 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday morning (November 25) in New York City.

The song is off of the 33-year-old superstar’s new album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, in stores now.
Despite all of the controversy surrounding Matt Lauer’s interview with Kanye, Lauer was one of the NBC broadcast’s hosts of the parade.

Kanye West Sorry for Pulling ‘Race Card’ on Bush

Kanye West, the hip-hop star who accused George W. Bush of racism during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, said that he now thinks he was too “quick to pull a race card” and can “connect with” the former president on a human level.

After the 2005 storm, Mr. West said that “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” a remark that stung the president, who writes in his new memoir, “Decision Points,” that it was the lowest moment of his presidency.

Speaking with KBXX radio in Houston on Wednesday, Mr. West said he could now sympathize with how Mr. Bush felt about such an accusation because he too was excoriated as a bigot for interrupting Taylor Swift during her MTV award acceptance speech last year.

“I definitely can understand the way he feels to be accused of being a racist in any way because the same thing happened to me when I got accused of being racist,” Mr. West said. “With both situations, it was basically a lack of compassion that America saw in that situation. With him, it was a lack of compassion with him not rushing, you know, him not taking the time to rush down to New Orleans. With me, it was a lack of compassion of cutting someone off in their moment.”

Mr. West continued: “But nonetheless, you know, I think we’re all quick to pull a race card in America. And now I’m more open and the poetic justice that I feel to have went through the same thing that he went. And now I really more connect with him just on a humanitarian level because that next morning, the next morning when he felt that, I felt that same thing, too.”

"Power" is the first single from America, rapper Kanye West off of his currently untitled fifth studio album. The song features singer Dwele and is co-produced by Kanye West and Symbolyc One. The song strongly features a sample of "21st Century Schizoid Man" by British progressive rock band King Crimson.


Background

The beat to the song was initially given to Rhymefest, only having West to listen to the song and gave interest in it. The song was recorded in Hawaii. The song was supposed to be released for digital download in early June, but for an unexplained reason it was cancelled. An unmastered version of the song reached the internet in early May 2010. Critical response to the song has been positive.
The intro is the current walk-up song of Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Ryan Braun, as well as Cincinnati Reds center fielder Drew Stubbs.

Music Video

Kanye West’s six-figure Horus chain hangs low in this first image from his “Power” video. The New York Times got a sneak peek of the clip directed by artist Marco Brambilla. As West raps, the camera slowly pans out in one continuous, unedited take to reveal him surrounded by nude female attendants; some kneel before him, others wear devil horns, and some are suspended upside down from the ceiling. The Sword of Damocles hangs over the rapper’s head, while an executioner prepares to strike him with a blade.
“It’s kind of apocalyptic, in a very personal way,” Brambilla told ArtsBeat. “It’s a very exaggerated hyper-sensational version of what the song is saying.”
On July 29, 2010, Kanye tweeted on his new official Twitter page, "At the Edit of Power."
The controversial video is expected to premiere on the 5th of August right after Jersey Shore. Kanye was boasting the tagline, “IT’S NOT A VIDEO…IT’S A PAINTING,”. 

"I shot images of the casting, people who came in as dancers and models and actresses in the various poses, and then it was put together as a photograph originally," Brambilla said. "We had very little time to shoot it. We only had a day to shoot, it so I basically know exactly how each element would look, where each element would go and how the whole piece would choreograph, because there's about 24 layers of video in the piece, and they are all interconnected. So it's almost like a visual ballet in a way, and it had to be pre-planned in a very specific way to make it cohesive and to make it work. That was the most challenging part of it: how to [translate] it from a still, a painting, and then make the painting come alive into the filming and the photography." After the music video aired, many copies of the video were posted online. Many of the fans had mixed comments on the video, some saying that it was disapointing and didnt live up to the anticipation. Some people say that instead of it being a music video it is more of a visual art piece.
Music and structure

"Power" is a progressive rock-infused hip hop song. This song samples "21st Century Schizoid Man" by the British rock band King Crimson and "Afromerica" by Continent Number 6.
Album art

The album art for the song "Power" was produced by American visual artist George Condo. The single had two other alternate albums designs. Kanye explained on his website that the original artwork represents how he tends to opinionate himself and how he always states his thoughts.
Release

On Friday, May 28, 2010, an unfinished version of the speculative first single was leaked onto the internet.
Late on the night of Wednesday, June 30, 2010, the single was released on iTunes for digital download with a different album cover also designed by the same artist that drew the last album cover.
Critical reception

The song has received a positive reception from critics. Jon Dolan of Rolling Stone gave a positive review of the song saying, "Kanye's best single since "Stronger" rides a torrid whipsaw beat, as he takes on his spelunking media image, pinballing from self-aware ("I'm an asshole") to defiant ("Kiss my asshole"). The sentiment is classic Kanye, but he hasn't melted down this brilliantly in a long time." Jason Lipshutz from Billboard praised the song saying, "With its stunning mix of rock-leaning production, memorable rhymes and unadulterated attitude, new single "Power" is a pissed-off shot of adrenaline that plays upon all of the controversial rapper's strengths. Rhyming over a soulful vocal harmony and an abrasive sample of King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man," West dismisses his doubters, takes a shot at "Saturday Night Live" and shrugs off his recent hiatus from hip-hop."
Live performances

Kanye West performed this song at the 2010 BET Awards atop a mountain-like prop, with a video compilation of footage shot on top of a mountain playing in the back. There is also speculation that his video will be similar to the performance. It was only his second televised performance since the 2009 VMA incident.

The song was used in promotional trailers for David Fincher's film "The Social Network".

Tawny Kitaen

Julie "Tawny" Kitaen,
 (pronounced /kɨˈteɪ.ən/; born August 5, 1961) is an American actress and media personality in Southern California. She became famous in the 1980s for appearing in several heavy metal music videos for the band Whitesnake, including the hit "Here I Go Again". Kitaen was married to Whitesnake lead singer David Coverdale from 1989–1991. She had recurring parts on multiple television series such as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and co-hosted America's Funniest People from 1992–1994. She was arrested for drug possession in 2006, has been in and out of rehab programs, was part of The Surreal Life cast in 2006, and was one of the patients in Season 2 of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Personal life

Julie Kitaen was born in San Diego, California in 1961 to a Jewish-American father, Terry Kitaen, who was an employee of a neon sign company, and Linda Taylor Kitaen, a housewife and a former beauty pageant queen (runner-up in the Miss San Diego pageant to Raquel Welch)[citation needed]. Julie began using the name "Tawny" at the age of 12, on her own initiative.
Kitaen married David Coverdale in 1989, but the two divorced in 1991. After her marriage to Coverdale ended, she married baseball pitcher Chuck Finley in 1997. They had two daughters — Wynter Finley in 1993 and Raine Finley in 1996 — and appeared in a feature of professional athletes and their wives in the 1999 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.
Career

Kitaen began her acting career in 1983 with a minor role in the television movie, Malibu. In 1984, she starred as the title character of the erotic-adventure movie The Perils of Gwendoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak (a.k.a. Gwendoline). She also co-starred in the movie Bachelor Party as the bride-to-be of a young Tom Hanks and was the star of the 1986 horror movie Witchboard.
Kitaen became associated with the glam metal scene because of her high school sweetheart, Ratt guitarist and founder Robbin Crosby.[citation needed] Her legs appeared on the cover of Ratt's self-titled EP wearing black stockings and red pumps, pictured with white rats. Then, in ripped-up clothes, she appeared on the cover of Ratt's Out of the Cellar. She also can be seen at the beginning of the Ratt video "Back for More" as the girl in the 50s-style skirt at the juke box.
In 1987, her boyfriend was David Coverdale, the lead singer of Whitesnake, and she appeared in several of the band's music videos. Probably most famous was "Here I Go Again," in which she did the splits and rolled around on the hood of two Jaguars wearing a white negligee. She also appeared in the videos for "Is This Love" and "Still of the Night". In 1989, she appeared in videos for "Fool For Your Loving" and "The Deeper the Love."
After her music-video appearances, Kitaen took on a number of television roles. She was co-host of America's Funniest People with Dave Coulier from 1992 to 1994, and was a regular cast member on The New WKRP in Cincinnati from 1991 to 1993. She guest-starred in an episode of the sitcom Seinfeld in 1991 and in an episode of Married... with Children in 1994. She had a recurring role as Deianira in three of the Kevin Sorbo Hercules television movies in 1994, and then in the regular television series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. From 1992 until 1996, she provided the voice of "Annabelle" in the animated television show Eek! The Cat.
Kitaen was one of the cast of the sixth edition of The Surreal Life, a reality television show on VH1, which began airing in March 2006.
Kitaen appeared in the second season of the VH1 reality TV show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which began in October 2008. Dr. Drew Pinsky voiced concern for her use of triazolam after she admitted to using more than 0.5 mg per use. Pinsky guaranteed her that taking the drug (as with any benzodiazepine) in such high doses will eventually cause her to have a seizure. For fear of her life, Pinsky cut the dosage in half, despite Kitaen's protests.
Legal troubles

In 2002, Kitaen was charged with committing domestic violence against then-husband major league baseball player Chuck Finley. Three days later, Finley filed for divorce.After a plea bargain, Kitaen agreed to "enter a spousal battery counseling program and avoid contact with Finley."The couple was married for five years and have two daughters, Wynter and Raine.
In November 2006, prosecutors charged Kitaen with possessing 15 grams of cocaine in her San Juan Capistrano home in Orange County. They said her two children were home at the time, and Kitaen had given deputies permission for the search. In December 2006, she entered a six-month rehabilitation program in exchange for the dismissal of a felony drug possession charge.
On September 26, 2009, Kitaen was arrested for driving under the influence in Newport Beach, California.
