PlentyofFish,
is a free Canadian online dating site, popular primarily in the Anglosphere. The service is free to use and generates revenue through advertising.
However, PlentyofFish has added a paying function to their site: paid users are now labeled as "Serious" members, and unpaid users are encouraged to pay.
History
Markus Frind, CEO and Founder of PlentyofFish Media Inc., graduated in 1999 from British Columbia Institute of Technology with a diploma in Computer Systems Technology.
In 2004, PlentyofFish became a full-time business for Frind. He ran the site independently until 2007, when he began hiring other employees at his new Vancouver headquarters. In 2009, PlentyofFish also launched a contest with Lady Gaga allowing single members to go together and meet the singer during her "Fame Monster" tour. The site can also be seen in Gaga's music video for Telephone, being accessed by the prison guards as she is released. In R&B singer Jason DerĂ¼lo's music video for the song Ridin' Solo, during one of the nightclub scenes, a group of girls are seen to be chatting on PlentyofFish on an iPad.
Staff
PlentyofFish employs three customer service staff members and relies heavily on volunteers to monitor their forums and sort through the 50,000 new photos that come in each day.
