Apnea Treatment Gets Heart Back in Shape

The aura6000 system delivers mild electrical pulses to stimulate targeted muscles of the tongue during sleep, operating as a pacemaker for the tongue. The system uses ImThera Medical's patented Targeted Hypoglossal Neurostimulation (THN Sleep Therapy(TM)) method to focus neurostimulation on certain muscles of the tongue during sleep. "The aura6000 is a new therapeutic option that has proven efficient in obstructive sleep apnea patients who cannot comply with CPAP," said Professor Daniel Rodenstein, Department of Pneumology at Universite Catholique de Louvain, St. Luc Hospital, (Belgium) and principal investigator of the ImThera study. "Patients that tried and failed CPAP and then were implanted with the aura6000 tell me that this therapy has allowed them to recover freedom to sleep undisturbed and to resume a normal life." The aura6000 system consists of an 11 cm(3) rechargeable neurostimulator--among the world's smallest--that generates electrical pulses and a lead (wire) with multiple electrodes that delivers the pulses to the hypoglossal nerve, which controls all muscles of the tongue. Patients use a remote control and charger (RCC) to turn the system on/off and to recharge the neurostimulator. "We are pleased to have reached this milestone and look forward to making this therapy available to patients at key European centers of excellence in the second half of 2012," said Marcelo G. Lima, Chairman, President and CEO of ImThera Medical. "This new therapy will prove to be an important tool for physicians to consider for the treatment of OSA." The limited launch of these systems in Europe represents ImThera Medical's first commercial efforts. The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome has been extensively studied in recent decades and it has been estimated that between 1% and over 6% of the adult population (World Health Organization) suffers from obstructive sleep apnea. Approximately 20% of OSA patients in the first world have the benefit of some type of treatment. Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the established therapy for moderate to severe OSA, however studies show that only 54% of patients are able to comply to this method. Left untreated, OSA may lead to many serious consequences, including: hypertension, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, type II diabetes, weight gain, depression and traffic accidents. About ImThera Medical, Inc ( www.imtheramedical.com ) and THN Sleep Therapy ImThera Medical has developed a novel neurostimulation system for the treatment of OSA.

Santorum wins hurt Gingrich as GOP race stretches on

Rick Santorum took his re-energized Republican presidential campaign to Puerto Rico Wednesday after key primary victories in the South that raised questions about conservative rival Newt Gingrich's viability as a candidate and portended a long battle with front-runner Mitt Romney. Romney, rejected again by Southern conservatives in the Tuesday primaries in Mississippi and Alabama, won caucuses in Hawaii and American Samoa to claim about a third of the total delegates available and maintain his lead. However, Santorum's twin primary triumphs -- while narrow -- reframed the GOP race as a one-on-one battle between the socially conservative former Pennsylvania senator and the more moderate Romney, with Gingrich's chances fading fast. Texas Rep Ron Paul, the libertarian champion, continued to trail well behind the other three candidates in the campaign to face President Barack Obama in November. "There is no end in sight," noted Ari Fleischer, a CNN contributor who was White House press secretary under President George W. Bush. "... For Republicans who thought that maybe Mitt Romney could come South and make this race look like it was coming to an end, this race is going on and on and on." Santorum headed to Puerto Rico Wednesday ahead of Sunday's primary there, which is a day after caucuses in Missouri and two days before a showdown with Romney in the Illinois primary.

DOT CO, Internet Selects Sedo for Exclusive Partnership to Broker Select .CO Domain Names

Brokerage Deal to Focus on Helping Entrepreneurs and SMBs to Acquire Short, Memorable Digital Brands to Build and Develop their Businesses Online
[news release] Sedo, the leading online domain marketplace and monetization provider, today announced that it has signed a two-year exclusive partnership with .CO Internet S.A.S. to provide brokerage of a select set of previously unreleased .CO domain names, including:
  • clothes.co
  • software.co
  • hardware.co
  • body.co
  • france.co
  • profit.co
  • onlinemusic.co
  • internetmarketing.co
  • onlinedating.co
  • jobsonline.co
To see the complete portfolio of .CO domains available via Sedo, go to Sedo.co.
.CO is increasingly becoming the top level domain (TLD) of choice for start-ups and small and mid-sized businesses (SMBs) searching for meaningful, memorable, and affordable domain names to brand their web presence. Since .CO was first introduced in 2010, Sedo has generated well over $1 million in .CO sales revenue, and the .CO domain extension has become one of the top selling domain extensions in Sedo’s marketplace.
“Sedo has done a fabulous job helping to establish and develop the secondary market for premium .CO domain names,” said Lori Anne Wardi, vice president of .CO Internet S.A.S. “Given their expertise and global reach, we are confident that Sedo is the perfect partner to help us bring these valuable digital assets to end-users worldwide.”
With more than one million .CO domain names registered by individuals and businesses in more than 200 countries around the world, CO has become a truly global TLD. The .CO domain is treated equally with legacy domain extensions like .com and .net by the search engines, making the domain particularly appealing from a search engine optimization perspective for businesses of every size.
Many of the world’s most recognizable brands are already using the .CO domain to build or expand their online presence, including Internet behemoths like Twitter, Google and Amazon (which have acquired the single letter .CO domains t.co, g.co and a.co, respectively); the Aspen Group insurance company (aspen.co); and the well-known Silicon Valley incubator 500 Startups (which has rebranded to 500.co).
