Tow Marathons,
With the fall season here and the weather cooling down, many cities in the United States are hosting marathons.
Samuel Wanjiru has won the Chicago Marathon , and the Portland Marathon started this morning. The results have not yet been released.
The event takes place in Portland, Oregon. Recognized as one of the top racing events in the country, the Portland Marathon spans approximately 26.22 miles.
Roughly 9,000 participants take on the challenge. With 21 turns on the course, it comes as no surprise that many consider it an extremely difficult feat.
.
Many, however, rave about the scenery of the course, as some of it covers the downtown Portland area. In addition, a couple of the miles pass through the waterfront park.
The first Portland Marathon event was held in 1971. Every year since then some of the rules have been tweaked, but for the most part participants have eight hours to complete the course. It starts and finishes in some of the city’s finest parks, including Chapman, Lownsdale, and Schrunk.
Similarly, the Chicago Marathon took place today as well, and Samuel Wanjiru came out victorious. The course for the Chicago Marathon begins at Grant park and spans 29 of the city’s local neighborhoods.
