Apology is not enough

IslamabadInterior Minister Rehman Malik said that the apology by US and NATO over border incursions is a victory of the parliament and the government.

Wrapping up debate on NATO border incursions in the National Assembly on Friday, Rehman Malik said that the killings of three Pakistani troops by NATO troops sent a wave of anger through the country. The government held extensive talks with US and ISAF and relayed our reservations. He said Pakistan has been a front line ally of the US and NATO in war against terror for the past 11 years and every knows the sacrifices Pakistan has made in this war. He said NATO mandate is limited to Afghanistan and they can’t interfere in Pakistan. He said we made it clear that in future if NATO violates our borders again than we have the right to exercise any option. He said we are a honorable nation and we know how to defend our borders.

He said our armed forces are fully prepared to thwart any attempt on the sovereignty and defense of this country

He said that the Karachi terror incident is in front of everyone there is no religion in the world that allows suicide attacks and the incident in Karachi goes back to Waziristan.

He said a conspiracy is being hatched to destabilize Pakistan and the nation needs to be reunited for defending terrorists.

Meanwhile Parliamentarians declaring United Nations and Pakistan policy on war against terrorism as a failure said that US and Afghanistan are making border incursions into Pakistan to hide their failure. The government needs to review its policy.

Earlier debating on adjournment motion regarding border incursions by NATO troops former Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao said that prior to NATO attacks he had pinpointed in the house that such a situation could arise. Everyday there is a drone attack; in September alone 24 drone attacks took place and US apologized for it but that doesn’t solve the problem.

He said US wants to interfere now in North Waziristan which is of utmost importance and the issue should be look into.

He said after US failure in Pakistan it is now eyeing our areas and we should seek an explanation from US in this regard. Taliban does not want to talks to the US showing their upper hand.

He said that the House should be briefed on what the US wants.

Sherry Rehman said the recent drone attacks prove that the UN and Pakistan have failed with regards to their policy on terrorism. She said that there is talk of giving further RS 110 billion for defense without the parliament approval.

Meanwhile Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza has adjourned the National Assembly session sine dine.
