Castellammare di Stabia banned Mini-skirts and football

Authorities in the resort town of Castellammare di Stabia in southern Italy near Naples are planning to prohibit the wearing of miniskirts and other revealing dresses in its territory.

Mayor Luigi Bobbio, a representative of the center-right party “People of freedom”, said he wants to target people who are “rowdy, unruly or simply badly behaved”.

The new rules, he said, will “restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence.”

“Nothing too revealing,” is the new slogan of the mayor. The newly introduced dress code prohibits not only women from wearing mini-skirts, but also both women and men from wearing low waist jeans. In Castellammare di Stabia, people will not be allowed to sunbathe outside the beach, play football in public places, and use blasphemous language.

Offenders will face a fine ranging from 25 to 500 euros, reports BBC.

Castellammare di Stabia is one of the many Italian cities, which have decided to use the additional powers that are granted to mayors by Silvio Berlusconi’s government. For example, some cities and towns have already prohibited people from building sand castles, kissing in cars, feed stray cats, wearing wooden slippers or use lawn mowers on the weekends.
