Portland Marathon 2010
The awaited annual marathon event of Portland, Oregon, will begin on Sunday October 10 at 9 am. It is regarded as one of the top 10 local road race events in the U.S and one of the top ten marathon events in the United States. Portland Marathon is a five hour race that covers a distance of 26 miles, 385 yards.
This marathon event started in the year 1971, and every year, it invites more than 9000 runners in the competition. In 1982, the Portland Marathon became the first US marathon to make it to the AIMS (Association of International Marathons) circuit. The course of the marathon is not a very easy one as course has 21 meandering turns, out of which, 20 are more than 90 degrees. The marathon begins and end at the charming Chapman/Lownsdale/Schrunk Parks. Like every year, even this year the event is likely to turn into a huge success.
.
The first five miles of Portland Marathon will be in Downtown Portland. The first mile will be on the gradual downhill, while the next two miles will be along the Waterfront Park. From the 6th mile till the 12th mile, the run will be comparatively easier as it would be on the plains and will cut the northwest section of the town. The next few sections of the Marathon course will cover some of the most spectacular places like Forest Park area, St. John’s Bridge and Willamette River.
The runners who would be participating in the event are extremely excited as the weather is expected to be more pleasant than last year’s event. In the meanwhile, a pre-race Expo was held at Hotel Hilton Portland on Friday and Saturday.
