Russisn return for its help in Afghanistan, Russia is setting out some tough terms for NATO. In exchange for supplying military helicopters, ammunition and troops, Russia has asked NATO to stop sending in deployments to countries that were former members of the Warsaw Pact. Sergey Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, said that deploying NATO troops in countries like Georgia would indicate mistrust of Russia. Moscow has been increasingly influential in NATOs operations. Recently, President Obama abandoned plans to build missile defense shields in Poland and the Czech Republic after Russia protested the plans.
