BofA's Banking Website Slow For Some

NEW YORK -(Profile Facts)- Bank of America Corp. (BAC) experienced slow service on its online banking website for some customers Friday, but the bank says the problems are not security-related.

A "very small population" of customers attempting to access their online accounts have been experiencing slow service or were unable to access the site, spokeswoman Tara Burke said. She added the majority of customers are experiencing no problems at all.

Burke said the slowdown began early Friday morning and was the result of a routine systems change. She didn't comment on what that change was and said the bank hopes it would be back to normal shortly.

"This has nothing to do with malware, Wikileaks or any type of attack," Burke said.

There has been speculation following comments by Wikileaks head Julian Assange that Bank of America is the target of a looming leak on a major American business. Bank of America has maintained it is unaware of any proof that Assange has a trove of documents about it.

In September, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. (JPM) experienced a series of disruptions to its Chase banking website, for which Chief Executive Jamie Dimon publicly apologized. The bank also said it would refund any fees for missed payments caused by the outage.
