Taseer defends increase in POL price

GOVERNOR Salman Taseer has defended the federal government’s increase in price of petroleum products, maintaining that it is all due to the price hike in the international market.

Talking to the media at Lahore Polo Club here on Sunday, he said that government could not provide subsidy on petroleum products due to the shortage of resources. He turned down the view that the PML-N was the friendly opposition but said that PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif would not destabilize the government. Answering the queries, he said that Mian Nawaz Sharif would become prime minister of the country but not before 2023. Taseer said the federal government had realized the sufferings of the people and was striving hard to provide relief to the masses.

ONLINE ADDS: Goveror Salman Taseer asserted that 2013 polls would be won by the Pakistan Peoples’ Party, adding that democracy would strengthen as long as the party was in power. He said all the predictions regarding dissolution of the government would prove wrong and the government was going nowhere and it would complete its term. He said the general elections would be held in 2013 and the PPP would again secure the rule. Commenting on Nawaz Sharif, he said the PML-N chief was a not a seasoned politician.
