Muslims in Kerala celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr,


Muslims in Kerala today celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr marking the end of the fasting month of Ramazan with special prayers and acts of charity.

Believers in large numbers congregated in mosques and Eid-gahs acrosss the state where special namaz and prayers were held.

Religious scholars and community leaders called upon the faithful to re-dedicate themselves to lofty Islamic tenets like brotherhood and compassion and strive to foster social and communal harmony.

Greeting the people on the occasion, Panakkad Sayid Hyderali Shihab Thangal, spiritual leader and state president of Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), said "Let Eid-ul-Fitre be another reminder for the believers to uphold the ideals of social and communal harmony d."

Governor RS Gavai and chief minister VS Achuthanandan also greeted the people on the occasion.

Cities and towns across the state pervaded with festive spirit with family visitor and exchange of gifts.

In many places, community outfits organised charity and relief programmes to help the poor and the needy.

The state civil supplies corporation has opened special Ramzan fairs in many places, where essential items are sold at subsidized prices.
