9 cocktails to support breast cancer awareness

Everyone likes to support Breast Cancer Awareness in October. There are any number of ways, from walks to cupcakes to simple, silicone bracelets. Even bars want to give a little back. That's why this month, a handful of Valley bars and restaurants are shaking and stirring pink-themed cocktails to benefit causes related to Breast Cancer Awareness.
Here is where you can find them, and do good while you're feeling good.

The trendy Japanese restaurant RA Sushi thinks philanthropy should have company, so it's offering a food and drink combo, with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. Through Nov. 15, all five Valley locations will feature a ONEHOPE Wine and a pink roll special for $15. The shrimp and crab roll is wrapped in a pink soy paper and served with a pink ribbon of strawberry sauce.

You're drinking it anyway, so it might make you happy to know that a portion from all Hello Kitty drinks sold at Geisha A Go Go will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Haven't had one? Well, try to remember the last time drinking Skyy Citrus vodka mixed with fruit infused sake and Japanese strawberry soda defined philanthropy.

These two intimate restaurants aren't keeping anything for themselves when it comes to its Pink Lady this month. The classically feminine cocktail, made with gin, grenadine, apricot liqueur, cream, lemon juice and Marachino foam, is $8, and all of the proceeds benefit the Phoenix chapter of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

At the Tempe Marketplace and Westgate City Center locations, the Pink Ribbon Saketini, $7.95, is a mix of Nigori Sake with fresh strawberry juice and a dash of cranberry. The best part is, 50 percent of the proceeds from the cocktail will benefit Susan G. Komen Foundation branches throughout the Southwest.

And, with 100 percent of the sales from the $10.95 drink going to the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade, it'll make you feel good enough to order a second.

The Four Seasons Resort has a whole host of pink-themed offerings this month, from specialty menus filled with foods known for cancer prevention to a Pretty in Pink spa package using pink hibiscus water. But if it's a cocktail you're looking for, hit the Onyx Bar & Lounge and order the Pinktini for $16. A portion of all proceeds benefit the Mayo Clinic's Breast Clinic in Arizona.

Although it's the new kid in town, Amaro Pizzeria & Vino Lounge didn't want to miss out on a chance to support Breast Cancer Awareness. They've whipped up a refreshing rosé sangria, complete with fresh raspberries, brandy, raspberry and pomegranate liqueur, cane sugar and Charles & Charles Syrah Rose. It's topped with raspberries and basil. And, all proceeds benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation of America.

Roka Akor is taking Breast Cancer Awareness month seriously, by offering a half-dozen cocktails on its Think Pink menu, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the Valley's chapter of the American Cancer Society. So whether you're sipping pink champagne, pink shochu, a pink Sake-tini, a pink margarita, rose wine or a pink mojito, you'll know you're doing good. And, it'll feel good, since the restaurant is dressed in pink for the month, with pink entryway lights and a pink ribbon beaming near the front door.

Luci's Healthy Marketplace
If you're looking for a way to support Breast Cancer Awareness in a nonalcoholic way, you can. Luci's Healthy Marketplace is featuring its Mrs. Arnold Palmer - otherwise known as Luci's pink lemonade drink - during the month of October. Half of the sales proceeds from each drink will go to a local breast cancer charity.
