U.S. Troops Being Trained on How to Handle Rioting Americans

Something of a post-democratic, "Mad Max" scenario, United States troops are being trained on how to handle rioting Americans in case the nation collapses into anarchy. This change in troop protocol is being brought out in response to riots and civil unrest that are happening in Europe. It isn't too far off to think the United States will soon become an iron fist, martial law police state catering to the elite. As for those who are being policed and bossed around, well, that's their problem.

The Creation of "Homeland Patrols"

According to PrisonsPlanet.com, the military are being called upon to assume roles normally designated to local police. This change in protocol is meant to slowly ease Americans to the visible presence of armed troops roaming the streets in their everyday lives. The thinking is that this will prepare regular Americans to troop/military action, should the United States enter a post-collapse period of turmoil and instability. These military groups will be focused around “homeland patrols", civil unrest, and crowd control.

Smart Planning or Paranoia?

Is this move by the U.S. Military an example of smart planning or knee jerk paranoia? Do American decision makers truly believe that the entire population will take up arms and revolt against the nation state as a collective mass of rioters? Moreover, if this did indeed happen, can't local police forces deal with such riots?

No, this sounds like an example of the government flexing its military muscle to let the population know, "Don't mess with American hegemony. We have the power to crush you, and if you test us, we will."

Is this a nation that realistically promotes democratic ideals, in the non-partisan sense of the word? What has happened to the "American Dream?"
