Elaborate arrangements have been made for the funeral of Dr Imran Farooq, Convener of the Rabita Committee of the MQM.

According to a spokesman for the Muttahida, PIA flight PK 788 carrying the body of Dr Imran Farooq will arrive at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport at 9.35am on Saturday. As per the schedule, party workers have been advised not to reach the Airport, but to head to Jinnah Ground in Azizabad. The parents and other family members of Dr Imran Farooq will proceed straight to Nine-Zero.

From Nine-Zero, the body will later be taken to the Jinnah Ground for the Namaze-Janaza to be attended by the MQM workers, supporters and legislators.

The Deputy Convener of the MQM Rabita Committee, Dr Farooq Sattar, and the members of the committee, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Wasay Jalil and Raza Haroon are arriving with the body of Dr Imran Farooq from London.

Tight security arrangements have been made by the Rabita Committee to avoid any untoward incident. The spokesman further said that all roads leading to the Jinnah Ground would be sealed, and no vehicle allowed into the area. The media has been issued passes for the coverage of the funeral.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held at the Governor’s House under the chairmanship of Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan and was attended by the Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Ghauri, and a member of the Rabita Committee, Rauf Siddiqi, to discuss the security arrangements made at the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport. Later, Ghauri and Siddiqi visited the airport to review the security arrangements there.
