Obama at Christmas tree lighting

Sara Bareilles, Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter, pianist and Eureka native, will be among the celebrities featured today and Saturday on KEET-HD's telecast of the PBS television special celebrating the 87th annual Lighting of the National Christmas Tree.
The program, which was taped Dec. 9 at the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., marked the beginning of the holiday season across the country. Hosted by hip-hop artist Common, President Obama and the first family, the show will also feature Blues legend B.B. King, Grammy Award-winning band Maroon 5, Jackie Evancho and Jim James of My Morning Jacket.
President Obama stated that the Christmas tradition conveys the message, “that says no matter who we are or where we are from, no matter the pain we endure or the wrongs we face, we are called to love one another as brothers and as sisters.”
The festivities and performances will conclude with the illumination of the decorated tree. The event is sponsored by the National Park Service and the National Park Foundation.
