Auburn vaults Oregon to take over No. 1 spot in BCS standings

There's a new No.1 in the Bowl Championship Series standings and, once again, it isn't the No.1 team in the three major polls.

Auburn used a 24-17 home victory over Louisiana State on Saturday to jump from No. 4 to the top spot in the latest BCS standings released Sunday evening.

Auburn replaces Oklahoma, which debut at No. 1 last week even though it didn't rank in the top two of the polls used in the BCS formula.

Auburn is first in this week's standings with a BCS average of .9371, followed by Oregon at .9069 and Boise State at .8846. Texas Christian is fourth, followed by Michigan State, Missouri, Alabama, Utah, Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Auburn's rise in the computer component allowed it to jump Oregon and Boise State, which are ranked first and second in the USA Today coaches' and Harris polls.

Auburn has the No. 1 computer ranking in the formula, while Oregon is No. 8 and Boise State is No. 6.

Oregon and Boise State also rank first and second in the Associated Press poll, which is no longer used in the BCS formula but still crowns an annual champion.

Oregon remained at No. 2 in the BCS despite a 60-13 win over UCLA last Thursday night in Eugene. Boise State had the weekend off and will host Louisiana Tech on Tuesday night.
