Tim Schumacher Resigns As Sedo CEO; Moves Up to Supervisory Board

Tim Schumacher, one of four co-founders of Sedo back in 2001, has announced he will be resigning as the company’s CEO and Board of Management on 31 December for “personal reasons.”

The company has already announced a new CEO and member of the management board, Tobias Flaitz who previously worked with Hubert Burda Media, as the new CEO/member of the Management Board of Sedo. Flaitz will commence in his new position with Sedo on 1 February, 2012.
At the next Annual General Meeting 2012 the Supervisory Board is due to be newly elected. In a proposal by United Internet AG, the Supervisory Board intends to propose Tim Schumacher as a new member of the Supervisory Board.
Tim Schumacher co-founded Sedo in 2001, together with Marius Würzner, Ulrich Essmann and Ulrich Priesner, and led the company to become the global leader in domain trading. In 2007, he was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” by Ernst & Young Germany. In 2009, he became CEO of Sedo Holding AG, which is comprised of Sedo’s domain business and ‘affilinet’, one of Europe’s leading affiliate marketing platforms.

Shoptalk.tv sells for $1000

ShopTalk.tv sold on Sedo for $1000.
Registered since 2007 the whois shows Sedo transfer.
This kind of name seems intuitive for .tv as it sounds like a decent name for a tv show.

Study Shows $17m Drop In 2011 Sales at Sedo

Domain name sales totalled $84,431,965 through Sedo in 2011, the company's 2011 Annual Domain Market Study that includes a review of the fourth quarter. However this was a significant drop on the 2010 calendar year when there was $101,438,953 in sales, a drop of $17,006,988. However it should also be noted that the $13 million sale of sex.com was included in 2010 figures.
Reflecting the drop in sales value, the total number of domain names sold also dropped to 39,951 from 43,499 in 2010. The declines could at least in part reflect the ongoing global financial crisis.
As expected, .COM domain names dominate the sales for the year, accounting for 44 per cent of all sales, while .DE came next accounting for 18 per cent. Third with six per cent of sales was co.uk then .NET (5%) and .EU (4%).
When looking at statistics provided by Verisign and HosterStats, the sales for .COM domains were also in proportion to their global share of registrations, with .COM accounting for around 44 per cent of all registrations using figures for the end of the third quarter in 2011. However .DE accounted for around 6.5 per cent of registrations.
Sedo also reports .CO and .ME entering the top ten sold top TLDs for the very first time, which they believe supports the case for new gTLDs and their potential for success. While these newer extensions increased in value, the traditionally strong .COM also increased, demonstrating that while there is promise for newcomers, .COM domains will retain their value.
Interestingly, the country with the most buyers of domain names through Sedo was Germany with 27 per cent of all buyers, followed by the United States (24%) and the United Kingdom (11%). Sedo's German origins would have an impact here, but nonetheless it is still surprising as Sedo has a significant presence in the US.
The report also shows the most common sales types are marketplace negotiations (offer/counter-offer), which accounted for 40 per cent of all sales for the year, while Buy Now sales accounted for 30 per cent of sales, up from 25 per cent in 2010. Sedo notes a strong growth in Buy Now sales can be traced to the growth of the promotion of the SedoMLS Promotion Network. And Buy Now could become the dominant form of domain purchase soon as in the fourth quarter this type of sale accounted for close to 40 per cent of all sales.
The continued increase in Buy Now sales, as well as growth in median prices for sales made over the SedoMLS Network, reveal a shift in end user behaviour. More buyers are interested in fast domain purchases, as well as the ability to purchase premium domain names from a recognisable environment, such as their preferred registrar.
"This year we saw domain buyers increasingly turn to sources like registrars to purchase their domains, so we're excited to be playing a key role in providing these buyers with the greatest choice of domains names," said Liesbeth Mack-de Boer, Chief Sales Officer at Sedo. "SedoMLS places sellers' domains in front of millions of potential new buyers, and our goal for 2012 is to make buying a domain as easy as registering one for the first time."
Almost half (47%) of all sales were sold in the price range up to $500, while 38 per cent of sales were in the $500 to $2,500 category. While the $2,500 to $5,000 category was next (8%), the proportion of sales in the $50,000 and up category accounted for four cent of sales, edging out the remaining two categories combined.
Length of a domain name is also an important characteristic, and it was domains with eight characters that were the most popular with 3,500 sales, including Sedo's biggest sale of 2011, gambling.com. There were over 3,500 domain names sold for domains with over nine and ten characters as well.
Average prices for various TLDs were mixed. The average price for .COM dropped, largely due to the record breaking sex.com sale, from $3185 in 2010 to $2775 in 2011. However .NET sales were stable, .ORG dropped dramatically from $2217 to $1289 and .INFO increased from $795 to $990.
Among the top six ccTLDs there was again no consistency with average prices of .DE domains increasing slightly from 2010 to 2011 ($1514 to $1530), while .AT domains increased from $1000 to $1177. But .FR more than halved in the average sale value from $6768 to $2386 while co.uk also dropped significantly ($2008 to $1273). Sales of .EU domains increased from $706 per domain to $1169.
Median sales of domains showed more consistency, as .COM showed a steady increase, with the median price of domains increasing from $550 to $650. There were decreases in the median value of .NET ($590 to $555) and .ORG ($591 to $510), while there were increases for .BIZ ($407 to $424) and .INFO ($416 to $418).

One of the Year's Three Biggest ccTLD Sales Tops Another Strong Week for the Domain Aftermarket

This week's all extension Top 20 Domain Sales Chart, sweeping 18 of the 20 positions, but all of those trailed the German ccTLD that sits on top of the elite list. That is OnlineCasinos.de, a domain that changed hands for €65,000 ($85,150) at Sedo.com. That is the year's third highest country code sale, trailing only Saturn.pl ($189,930) and Flights.ca ($120,000).
The only other non .com domain on the leader board was also a ccTLD (and also sold by Sedo). That is #10 (tie) Hotel. me at $25,000. Thenon .com gTLDs were shut out this time around.
The .coms began their run with #2 Torc.com at $68,000 via Frank Schilling's DomainNameSales.com. They had a hand in seven charted sales, three from their own listings and four more that wereDomainAdvisors.com names that were sold using the DomainNameSales platform. The later group was led by #3 Quantify.com at $50,000 and #4 (tie) JunkRemoval.com at

Sedo rounded out the first five with #4 (tie) Kredittkort.com at $45,000 and went on to pile up a half dozen chart entries including four that reached the top half of the chart.
Two other venues, GoDaddyAuctions and NoktaDomains also claimed multiple chart entries. Nokta hit the daily double with #6 Club Dresses.com at $38,750 and #17 Diyaliz.com("dialysis" in Turkish) at $16,400.  GodaddyAuctions filled four slots with a quartet led by #9FromRagsToRiches.com at $26,000.
The AfternicDLS also earned chart honors with #20 CityCompass.com at $13,654 and supplemented that one with two more five-figure sales just off the chart and close to 100 in the four-figure range -  more than any other venue at that level which is favored by small to medium sized businesses.

Cnet.com Just Covers .Co & Juan Calle: There Are 1.3 Million .Co Domains Registered

The Story entitled: “CO Internet is a company cool enough for Brooklyn hipsters” was written by Paul Sloan who has written about the domain name industry before.
The article starts out:
“Suddenly, the outfit behind the .co domain is everywhere, even if many people barely notice. It’s all part of Juan Diego Calle’s shrewd strategy”.
“”If you haven’t heard of Juan Diego Calle’s company quite yet, consider yourself not among the in-the-know here over the last few days.
“I’m referring to .CO Internet, the Miami company that fought hard to land a contract with the government of Colombia so it could commercialize the country’s top-level-domain, or TLD.”"
The article goes on to say:
“Since .Co’s rolled out to the public in July 2010, about 1.3 million have been registered. ”
“”Diego Calle said the company’s revenue for the past 12 months is about $25 million, which is an impressive number when you consider he the names have only been available since for a year and half.”
Its a great article for .Co which is certainly making a huge splash at the SXSW Show.

Eade to be Buckley's mentor at Magpies Sydney

IMAGERY and perception. Those words may not tell the full story, yet they help shape many questions.

What was going through the minds of Mick Malthouse and Nathan Buckley, as they stood slightly apart, watching the Geelong players being feted on stage on Saturday?

For Mick, was it the cold realisation hit that his career had fluttered to the earth like the blue-and-white ticker tape around him?

And for Bucks, was it the immediacy of the loss, or was he already thinking about next year?

A premiership for your thoughts.

Amid the jubilation of the Cats, the visual disappointment - or was it coldness? - of Buckley and Malthouse standing on the Southern Stand wing will be an image for the ages.

And what about them?

It is said they aren't best friends and that the succession plan had driven a wedge so sharp and deep their relationship had deteriorated to strictly professional. And problematic at that.

They didn't appear to exchange words or warmth in the post-script. At the post-match dinner, Malthouse made only passing reference to the new coach.

At the Collingwood family day yesterday, however, Malthouse acknowledged that the club was in good hands and that "Nathan and the player group will make it even better again".

Perception is reality and so are the thoughts of people close to the Malthouse-Buckley relationship; that Malthouse imposed himself over Buckley and that Buckley despised Malthouse's treatment.

Suffice to say, when Malthouse announced he wouldn't be at Collingwood next year, Buckley wasn't about to use a Chinese burn to convince him to stay.

That it is all over, that the cold war between the two ended without ultimate victory, will clearly demand reference in Collingwood's booklet of history.

The journey this season grew increasingly about Malthouse.

A great of the AFL, he has earned the accolades, but there is a query about the fact the countdown to Saturday became as much about Collingwood as it did Malthouse.

Even as late as Sunday week ago, Malthouse announced on Channel 7 the Grand Final would be his last game as coach.

The role for Eade will partly incorporate functions that Malthouse would otherwise have performed had he stayed at Collingwood - overseeing high-performance strategies, innovations and development - but, unlike Malthouse, Eade will have a role on match day in the box. There may also be some element of opposition analysis.
Collingwood has already appointed Ben Hart to the club as defensive coach, while Scott Watters, who was defensive coach this year, will move to become midfield coach should he not succeed in his bid for the St Kilda position.
Malthouse made the surprising announcement in his post-match press conference that he would not be at Collingwood next year. Malthouse reached a decision with president Eddie McGuire and the club executive about six weeks ago that he would leave after the finals.
He yesterday bid farewell to the crowd of about 1000 who turned out at Gosch's Paddock, saying the club was well positioned to win the flag next year.
''Rest assured this football club can only get better because of yesterday,'' Malthouse said.
''I think you look at the age of our players Chris Tarrant is our oldest player and he is as fit as he was five years ago.
He had a fantastic year. Next oldest is Leon Davis, All-Australian this year, Ben Johnson, who had a pretty good year. They are our three oldest players.''
Leigh Brown is the only player confirmed to be leaving the club after announcing his retirement. Brown has indicated an interest in coaching and will speak with several clubs in the coming weeks.
The 30-year-old small defender has indicated an interest to return to family in Western Australia, but yesterday said he would ''definitely like to stay'' at Collingwood.
